Auto-Trail Roller Team All New A-Class And Van Conversion

By William Coleman

It’s time to introduce, or roll out, the all new A-Class and van conversions from Roller Team.

One of the UK’s favourite imported motorhomes brands, is set to grow even further in the 2019 season – thanks to a portfolio extension that includes an all-new compact A-class Pegaso, the 590, and two van conversion models, Toleno L and Toleno R.

Toleno represents the company’s first venture into the increasingly popular van conversion sector. The Toleno L is a two-berth end lounge model offering extra-long settees that convert to single beds or a double, while the Toleno R is a true four-berth, thanks to a clever two rear double beds configuration that also leaves plenty of living space. Both are based on Fiat’s 5.99m long Ducato.

The new Pegaso A-class also plays the compact trump card. Again, only 6m long, it packs in a front lounge, drop-down overcab double bed, centre kitchen and washroom across the rear.
As ever, value-for-money is a top priority. The Toleno L, for example, starts at £39,995. And the Pegaso, from just £59,990, looks set to hit the market as the most competitively priced A-class available.

Roller Team’s UK distributor Auto-Trail has confirmed the new Toleno van conversions will be produced alongside Tributes and Auto-Trail V-Lines here in the UK.
Other 2019 highlights are:

  • The Zefiro coachbuilt range is now available based on Fiat’s Ducato as well as Ford’s Transit. Each of the eight models gets new furniture (including gloss white locker doors), flooring and Eco leather upholstery, Truma Combi 6 heating and hot water systems with iNet capability, new white side skirting. Models 685 and 696 offer a half-dinette option, with the beds in the former lowered by 12cm for even easier access.
  • T-Line continues as a three-model line-up of low-profile coachbuilts. For 2019, look out for darker wood furniture with gloss upper locker doors and upgraded flooring, premium Eco leather upholstery and Truma Combi 6 heating and hot water with iNet. Kitchens have enhanced storage and worktop areas.
  • Auto-Rollers continue as a three-strong range with particular family appeal – Lo-Line low-profile seven-berth 707 and six-berth 747, and Hi-Line overcab six-berth 746. Improvements for 2019 include new upholsteries and an upgrade to Truma’s Combi 6 heating and hot water (with iNet).
  • Key options are the Driver’s Pack and Thermo Pack. Prices for these have been pegged at current levels, £1,250 and £1,500 respectively. The Driver’s Pack is standard on all Pegasos, while the Thermo Pack is not available for Tolenos. Engine upgrades and Comfort-matic automatic transmission are also available.
  • Roller Team motorhomes also feature highly on the fleets of a number of motorhome hire specialists, where they’ve proved themselves in the most rigorous of conditions.

Marketing manager Russell Hensman says: “All this sees Roller Team hitting the season ahead on a real high. We’ve literally broadened our appeal, offering unparalleled specification at the very keenest of prices.”

“Also, key to our success is our excellent team of enthusiastic dealers, a network that has grown to 23 this season. Again, that makes us one of the best-distributed imports, but also something that’s critical for the success of any brand.”

Roller Team motorhomes are distributed and marketed in the UK by Auto-Trail, part of the Trigano family. Find out more at www.rollerteammotorhomes.co.uk

Fundraising Pets On Tour Mark A Rise In Dog Friendly Holidays

By William Coleman

A pet’s life can be a tough one. Being paid constant attention, specialty treats, pampering and holidays away with the family. Now they even have their own private beach at a top holiday park in Scotland where they have been sunning it up and raising funds for charity. It’s a dog’s life for me from now on.

A very lucky group of four legged friends were let off the the leash at a Loch Lomond private dog beach on Sunday 29th July as Argyll Holidays launched their new partnership which will see them raise a minimum of £2,000 in the next year for the Scottish SPCA. The pooches that were invited to this exclusive event were from the Cardonald SSPCA Centre.

Recently the holiday industry has seen a 56% increase in families taking their dogs with them on their staycation across Scotland. With so many pets going on tour the donations towards the Scottish SPCA will enjoy a new wave of donations.

Holidaymakers are barking mad for dog-friendly staycations within the UK, with over 9,000 pooches visiting Argyll Holidays since 2014. The holiday park operator has seen a 56% increase in dog holidays in the last four years, and is encouraging pet owners to take a paws and think about dogs that aren’t as fortunate as their own.

For every pampered pooch that stays with Argyll Holidays, a donation will be made to the Scottish SPCA to help keep dogs safe across Scotland.

Lisa Allan-Downie, Head of Marketing, at Argyll Holidays, said: “As a proud owner of two rescued Collies, Bonnie and Clyde, I understand that dogs are an important part of the family – and that means they’re part of the family holiday.

“We’re excited to be partnering with the Scottish SPCA to promote our dog friendly breaks and give something back to furry friends that might not have the opportunity to go on holiday this year.

“At Argyll Holidays, we’re welcoming more and more dogs to stay every year and we make sure that they have a pawsome time, with special dog bowls and some of the most spectacular dog-walking routes for them to enjoy.”

Sharon Comrie, Superintendent at the Scottish SPCA said: “We’re delighted to have this exciting partnership with Argyll Holidays.

“Dogs really are part of the family and it’s great that they are so welcome to stay at the holiday parks.

“We don’t receive any government or lottery funding which means we rely on the public to be able to continue our work rescuing and rehoming animals in desperate need of our help. Partnerships like this help us fund vital projects and day-to-day costs of running our rehoming centres.”

Less Is So Much More With Truma

By William Coleman

In a day and age where we have smart phones and high end HD TVs as thin as a box of matches it is no surprise that Truma are now able to fit air con systems that are a fraction of the size to previous market leading models. And it works wit their recently released app, they are really are making life easy for us.

The summers are getting long and warmer, which means the air conditioning systems will be on for a lot more than usual. You want to make sure that you have a top spec system that does not compromise the living space or exterior size of your leisure vehicle, and this is where Truma fit in to the equation.

The new Truma Aventa compact roof-mounted air conditioning system will soon be on the market to ensure we stay cool while not having to add larger models to our touring homes.

When and where are you guys be able to see this new tech on display? The wait is almost over as the Truma storm the Caravan Salon in Dusseldorf later on this month.

So the name includes the word “compact” and that is exactly what you get. An extremely compact system that still delivers the power and energy needed to sleep under a somfy duvet in 30+ degree weather. The delivery of extremely fast with 1,700 W cooling. The size in no way diminish the power of the product.

“We have developed the Aventa compact specially for vans and small motor homes or caravans” explains Bernd Gerlach, Head of European Retail Management.

Not only is the new tech small but it is also ultra lightweight, weighing in at just 27.5kg. The Truma Avent compac is the lightest roof-mounted air conditioning system on the market. Do you have limited roof space? This will no longer be an issue.

Thanks to its low energy consumption of 2.8 A, it is also suitable for use on campsites with weak fuse protection.

The small air distributor is also new. Its compact design means it saves space inside the motorhome or caravan as well. Four individually adjustable outlets distribute the cold air evenly to create the perfect indoor climate.

Keeping the noise level down was a key design focus. The new roof-mounted air conditioning system is very quiet and includes the tried-and-tested sleep function with reduced fan operation. Restful nights and undisturbed campsite neighbours guaranteed! Of course, the Truma Aventa compact can be conveniently controlled using the Truma App and can be connected to the Truma iNet System.

This means that customers with a Truma Combi, Truma VarioHeat or Alde heater can also use the automatic climate control. It is not just the appliance that has been well designed – Truma has thought carefully about installation as well. Special mounting frames ensure fast, watertight installation – even on textured van roofs.

The new Truma Aventa compact replaces the Aventa eco, Truma’s previous “small” roof- mounted air conditioning system. In January 2019, the Aventa family will welcome another new member – the powerful 2,200 W Aventa compact plus. “This, together with the large 2,400 W Aventa comfort, completes our air conditioning portfolio and means we have the perfect system
for every cooling requirement”
says Gerlach.

Key facts – Truma Aventa compact:

  • . Weight: 27.5 kg
  • . Cooling capacity: 1,700 W
  • . External unit dimensions: 785 x 560 x 265 mm (L x W x H)
  • . Dimensions of air distributor: 556 x 496 x 46 mm (L x W x H)
  • . Power consumption: 2.8 A

UK Heatwave Creates Leisure Vehicle Sale Boom

By William Coleman

So it seems as though the heat wave that the UK has been enjoying for the past month or so is not set to continue despite the blip we have seen over the weekend. As the heat continues to rise so do the sales of motorhomes, caravans and holiday bookings.

It really is no surprise that the heatwaves we have been experiencing has had a positive effect on the UK tourism and touring home sector. Why would you need to travel abroad when you can have a 5 star mediterranean temperature holiday right at home here in the UK? No need to pick one location with one hotel when you can travel in total freedom with a motorhome or caravan.

The caravan industry in Shropshire and Mid Wales has experienced a 40% rise in first time buyers of motorhomes and caravan, and it has just happened to coincide with the soaring temperatures hitting the UK.

Another company who is enjoying the weather and success it brings is Salop Leisure in Shrewsbury. The company has recently been named “Large Dealer of the Year” by Swift Group. Salop are over the mood with the recent success but they believe they will not see the real benefit of the hot weather until next year.

“Based on previous experience, we believe the heatwave will have the most positive effect next year when couples and families are booking their holidays,” said managing director Mark Bebb.

“Because they have enjoyed themselves so much this year by taking a staycation during the heatwave, they are more likely to want to spend their holiday here again next summer.

“The last time we had a heatwave like this was 1976 and there’s nowhere better than the UK to spend your holiday when the sun is shining and it’s great value for money., continued Mark.

Having spoke to people both in and out of the industry there seems to be a lot of foreshadowing or issues and drama travelling abroad post Brexit: “More people are opting to invest in touring caravans, motorhomes, caravan holiday homes and luxury lodges, which give them the chance to get away for a break any time they wish.

“We are expecting staycations to become increasingly popular due to Brexit, which is causing great uncertainty in the country and is likely to cause even longer delays at airports and ports due to customs checks.

“If you’re living in the Midlands or North West England, you can jump in your car and be at your holiday destination in Wales within a couple of hours without all the hassle of waiting for hours in an airport or at port.”

Salop Leisure, which has sales centres in Shrewsbury, Machynlleth and Stourport-on-Severn, has been delighted to see so many new customers and first time buyers this summer.

“We are seeing huge demand for touring caravans and motorhomes aided by the hot weather and the fact that staycationing is fashionable and affordable by using the range of financial products now available,” added Mr Bebb.

Touring caravan parks across Mid Wales have been enjoying a very busy summer and Mr Bebb reported that Salop Leisure’s glamping and caravanning resort, Love2Stay in Shrewsbury is fully booked throughout the school holidays and every weekend until the end of September. Having visited the site on several occasions it really is easy to see why so many people keep coming back.

“This week, there are 650 people staying at Love2Stay and we have a huge waiting list, which shows the demand for staycationing and the concept of the resort,” said Mr Bebb. “We are passionate about camping and caravanning and we believe it should be peaceful, restorative and enjoyable.”

The resort recently opened Hot Springs, 240 square metres of heated rock pools, a real sandy play beach, waterfall, boardwalk and deck chairs, which is proving a big hit with visitors.

The £6 million resort aims to raise the bar for quality UK holidays. It has 122 touring caravan pitches and a village of 11 luxury glamping lodges on a 22-acre site offering panoramic views across to Wales and the Shropshire Hills.

Food Fare Success For Lancashire Holiday Park

By William Coleman

Local food, local drink, local snacks from local producers at a holiday park site. What more can you ask for from a trip away in your caravan or motorhome? This Lancashire park has been celebrating life with their guests and filling their bellies with UK made snacks and drink.

From popcorn to pies to tasty crisp glass of pale ale, whatever your favourite treat is you’d be sure to find it at the Moss Wood caravan park in Cockerham. Hundreds of visitors attended the one day event in July to sample the smorgasbord of food and drinks from producers from all over the UK.

Guest, friends and family all tucked into free samples of UK made produce from different regions all across the UK. The producers were mainly smaller family run businesses which “export” their goods to all corners of the country.

This event marked the second food and drink celebration at Moss Wood, which is also a family owned business. This years event drew four times as many visitors as the previous.

The holiday park has earned many awards over the years for its conservation work, and Henry Wild said that the event was also sending out an environmental message:

“Bringing in food from all over the globe has a price to pay in terms of the damage caused by fuel emissions, and we are questioning why this should be necessary,” he said.

“In Lancashire we have many world-class food and drink specialists whose produce could grace the finest tables, and its doesn’t have to clock-up hundreds of food miles to get here.

“Buying local also supports our regional economy and the jobs created here, and that’s why we were delighted that so many people came along to raise a glass to Lancashire!” added Henry.

Exhibitors included a micro-brewery, Farm Yard Ales, just down the road from Moss Wood, plus producers of fare ranging from cheeses and ice creams to hand-cooked crisps and sausages.

As well as encouraging visitors to enjoy free tastings, representatives from the businesses described how their products were made, often using traditional ingredients and methods.

Moss Wood also markets its own craft beer, Wild Ales, and hopes next year to start selling honey harvested from the three bee hives installed this spring in the grounds of the park.

The Bailey Of Bristol Phoenix Product Launch

By William Coleman

Last week we had to privilege of being invited to the 2019 Bailey of Bristol product launch at Stanton House in Swindon. This year’s launch exclusively featured the all new Bailey Phoenix range. And lets just say that what we saw brings a whole new meaning to the term ‘entry level’.

During the launch we heard from Simon Howard, Bailey’s Marketing Director, as well as the marketing team and their sister brand PRIMA Leisure. As Bailey enter their 70th year they have risen this new range from the ashes to introduce the new Phoenix.

PRIMA Leisure has seen large success this year by aligning themselves with Bailey and have their eyes formly set on the future with a target of 20 stores nationwide.

We want to continue supporting Bailey customers as well as non Bailey customers with our product range.”. So if you need a new awning I would strongly suggest looking into their flagship product, the Prima Air Awning.

Phoenix- The Range

Let me start by saying that the Phoenix will be replacing the Pursuit in the Bailey line up. The main reason behind the introduction of the new range is to “bring balance to the Bailey portfolio”, says Simon Howard. Bailey want to bring the standard of their “entry level” closer to their more premium ranges. Instead of calling this product entry level they have dubbed them the first choice range.. An entry priced caravan with high premium features and benefits.

You will be able to get your hands on the 7 new layouts as of September when they are rolled out to the general public.

The 7 new layouts are as follows:

  • 420- 2 Berth
  • 440- French Bed 4 Berth
  • 642- 4 Berth with Island Bed
  • 664- 4 Berth with Island Bed
  • Both the 640 and 664 are the first caravans in this price range to feature island beds

  • 650- 5 Berth
  • 760- Twin Axle 6 Berth

All 7 of the different layouts will come with all the trademark Bailey touches as well as a vertical skylight. The vans will feature 5 230 volt plug sockets as well as 2 USB points. Being able to charge 7 devices at once should stop any arguments or squabbles.

Another feature which is new to the more entry level based range is that they will all be fitted with Truma systems throughout. So Bailey are bringing premium brands to lower price based models to ensure everyone of their customers get the very best for their money.

Another stand out of this range is the customisation and upgrades that are available. These can be added in both pre and post purchase. So if you want to include a variation of different dressing kits you can, which saved the Sunday morning trip to ikea to find the ideal scatter cushion.

For more information, as well as prices, visit the Bailey Phoenix Range website.

In the meantime enjoy the Bailey’s video on the new range and have your holiday your way.

Travelworld Sponsor Winning Formula At Goodwood

By William Coleman

Touring vehicles and motorsports have always gone hand in hand, so much so that the luxury motorhomes of Travelworld have been sponsoring a winning team who drove to massive success recently at Goodwood.

Travelworld Motohomes were celebrating with lifestyle partner BAC (Briggs Automotive Company) at last week’s Festival of Speed. After the Mono supercar stormed to victory in the acclaimed Michelin Supercar Shootout.

The BAC team were able to make the most of their downtime by relaxing in of two Carado T447s as they made their way to the top of the leaderboard at the West Sussex annual Hillclimb, famed for attracting some of the rarest and most glamorous car on the planet.

BAC, which recently became the first climate positive car manufacturer in the world, won
the Michelin Supercar Shootout and became the fastest ever supercar at the festival when
driver Anthony Reid sent Mono up the famous Hillclimb in 49.13 seconds.

Travelworld Motorhome’s managing director, Ross Edwards – who first met Neill Briggs, Co-
founder and Director of Product Development at BAC, in 2001 whilst competing in ‘Global
GT Lights’ – offered his congratulations to the team on their success: “Well done to BAC – a fantastic win for Mono at Goodwood! Travelworld’s focus on striving for the best and representing quality and performance demonstrates the real synergy between our both brands.

When Neill told me nearly 10 years ago about his aspirations to design and build a single seater race car for the road I thought he was crazy but I also knew that once he had set his mind to something he very rarely allowed it not to happen, one of the things I have always admired about him. Ten years on Mono is still unique in the marketplace and attracts a huge amount of interest worldwide.”

Neill Briggs added: “We are absolutely delighted that we have now officially joined forces
with Travelworld, who – like BAC – are example-setters in their field. Travelworld offer the
absolute best motorhomes that are ideal for automotive events and perfect for the BAC
team.”

Big Little Tent Festival With The Caravan & Motorhome Club

By William Coleman

The Caravan and Motorhome Club launched their first Big Little Tent festival 4 years ago and this year The Club have made history with their camping extravaganza on the sacred ground of Kia Oval in London.

The Caravan and Motorhome Club picked 10 lucky campers to pitch up 3 tents on the world’s most famous cricket pitch on one of the hottest days of the year so far, Monday 23 July to kick off the Big Little Tent Festival.

The camping fever spread beyond the Kia Oval as happy campers started to sprout up all over the UK. The Club has seen record setting numbers of campers across their sites this May and June. The bookings for camping holiday makers have gone up by 17% over the last couple of months. With weather like this is there any wonder the masses are flocking to camp sites as bookings have shot up by 11% for the rest of the season.

The Club are perhaps best known for catering to the touring vehicle community but there are over 40 sites nationwide that offer tent pitches to their members.

Big Little Tent Festival has now become one of The Club’s annual events which has seen great success over the past 4 years. The 2018 event will take place over the bank holiday weekend, 25/26/27 August 2018.

The annual event has been set up to encourage people to experience all the wonders of the great outdoors by pitching up their tents in their own back gardens and creating their own little summer festival.

Keen festival hosts are encouraged to sign up online at www.camc.com/bltf to register for a free festival pack which includes bunting and wristbands to enhance the experience! They can also follow all the fun on Twitter and chart their own experiences using the hashtag #BLTF18.

Harvey Alexander, marketing director of the Caravan and Motorhome Club said: “Camping is a great and cost effective way to get away with the family and make the most of the fantastic weather we’re having, so it’s no surprise we’ve seen such a rise in bookings. Many of us fell in love with camping as kids after pitching a tent in our back garden and we hope the Big Little Tent Festival will encourage more young families and groups of friends to enjoy a night under canvas and all the adventures and fun that it will bring.”

Award Winning Is On The Agenda For Dales Family Park

By William Coleman

The hopes are running high at a North Yorkshire Dales holiday park this month as the family, as well as the hard working staff, who own the site work their way to the finals of the prestigious 2018 White Rose Awards this summer.

Judges of the awards have declared that Riverside Caravan Park in the village of High Bentham to be among the very best holiday providers in the country. Something I feel all sites should be striving towards to help the continued growth and success of the “staycation” movement.

Now that the business have been announced and finalists the owners, Thomas and Jane Marshall, must wait with on tender hooks until 12 November to find out if they will take away the top prize as overall winner in the holiday parks category.

The finals will take place at a glittering ceremony at Harrogate Conference Centre attended by top tourism chiefs and other VIP guests from across North Yorkshire.

The White Rose Awards are described as Britain’s biggest regional awards scheme for the tourism and hospitality industry which is worth around £8 billion to North Yorkshire’s economy.

Riverside’s shortlisting comes during what Thomas Marshall says could be the park’s busiest ever summer in its 49-year history.

In its tranquil rural setting, Riverside provides over 250 caravan holiday homes and luxury lodges, as well as glamping pods and pitches for touring caravans and motorhomes.

Blossoming in the White Rose Awards: judges say that Riverside is among the best parks in North Yorkshire

Thomas says that everyone was delighted with the news that the park would be put under the spotlight in the finals of the White Rose Awards:

“It’s an especially pleasing because an important criterion of these awards is the hospitality and quality of welcome which is provided to holiday guests,” he said.

“Delivering this is very much in the hands of our loyal and hardworking staff, so they deserve a large share of the credit for this achievement.

“I hope the publicity will also benefit other tourism businesses in the area by putting the focus on North Yorkshire as a fantastic place for family holidays,” Thomas added.

Thomas and Jane are helped in the running of their business by their daughter Isabel. There is more information about the park at Caerphilly County Borough Council

MP Gives Nod To Powys Park

By William Coleman

Wales MP Chris Davies swapped Parliament for a park in his constituency this summer to meet its family owners and hear about their recent shortlisting for a major award.

Rockbridge Residential and Holiday Park has now reached the finals of the Rural Business Awards, and could be crowned as Britain’s top countryside enterprise.

Mr Davies, who is MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, congratulated park owners Glenn and Hannah Jones on their success so far in the prestigious awards scheme.

The couple own three top-rated parks in the Welsh borders and Herefordshire under the business title of Discover Parks, including five-star Rockbridge.

Based in Presteigne in Powys, it provides both residential park homes as well as holiday lodges and pitches for touring caravans, motorhomes and tents.

During his visit, Mr Davies took the opportunity to tour the landscaped grounds of the park and to learn more about how it attracts thousands of visitors to the region each year.

The spending of holiday guests, Glenn Jones told the MP, provides a substantial boost to the area’s tourism economy, and helps to support many other local businesses.

Mr Davies said he was also keen to learn more about what the impact would be on residential and holiday parks of proposed new legislation from the Welsh Assembly.

Mr Jones said that the Welsh Government’s policies needed very careful analysis, and he hoped that parks would not be fettered from continuing to develop and help sustain local employment.

Mr Davies said he recognised that tourism plays an extremely valuable role in his constituency, and that thriving businesses such as Rockbridge park deserved encouragement and support.

Meanwhile, Glenn and Hannah and their staff team are crossing their fingers for success in the regional finals of the Rural Business Awards which take place in October this year.

They could then be fast-tracked into next February’s national final of the competition whose sponsors include Amazon and the Country Land and Business Association.

In what was a bumper industry brough fantastic success to the Adira brand. The company produced 14,200 unit in what is the largest factory in Europe employing around 17,000 people. After joining with Triango Adria had their best year in 53 years.
