A caravan dealership in Coventry is counting the costs after a fire caused around £300,000 worth of damage on the day it was due to open.

Police have launched a full investigation into the suspected arson attack which saw 14 caravans and motorhomes go up in flames at Broad Lane Leisure, Tile Hill, on Saturday morning (15 June), the Coventry Telegraph reports.

While a number of vehicles were completely engulfed in the fire, staff have been forced to write off a total of 26 models which were badly damaged.

Fire crews were called to the scene where 20 firefighters tackled the blaze and it has left site general manager Ken Scofield devastated.

He told the news provider: “I must admit I burst into tears when I saw it. Blood, sweat and tears had gone into getting it ready for the opening day.”

Broad Lane Leisure currently has two other dealerships in the Warwickshire area with branches in Alcester and Kenilworth, the Coventry site was set to be officially launched on 15 June but the fire has put a major dent in plans.
