Festive cheer could be in short supply at the Park Cliffe Caravan Site, near Windermere, this December, after local officials blocked plans to allow the park to open over Christmas.
The proprietors of the Lake District resort had hoped to be able to stay open during the chilly months, with the region often popular among campers at this time of year due to the stunning natural scenery on offer.
However, as the North West Evening Mail reports, planners at the Lake District National Park Authority have moved to deny the proposals, leaving the caravan park owners with the prospect of a bleak winter ahead.
As the news provider reports, development control committee member Professor Jeremy Rowan-Robinson, told a meeting of planners in Murley Moss that there was little reason to back the plans.
“I know this site and have walked in this area and it’s a landscape detractor. This proposal would make it worse,” he said.
The decision is a blow to the park owners, who have faced difficult weather conditions in recent months, with many caravan parks forced to close following heavy rain.
As the Yorkshire Post reported, sites in Catterick and Knaresborough were forced to close amid fears over rising water levels.
