The new CR-1 is sure to turn some heads
In recent years we have seen caravans and motorhomes alike get pimped out with updated features, new and improved technologies and sophisticated designs. Remember our feature: Caraglamming is the New Black? The new CR-1 Carbon Fibre RV, however, takes things to the extreme, with Global Caravan Technologies, taking this hotel on wheels to the next level and then some.
The caravan, inspired by formula 1 technology, utilises the latest motorsport and aerospace expertise. Being based in Speedway, Indiana, the home of the famous Indy 500, Global Caravan Technologies, worked with IndyCar series builder, Dallara, to ensure its supremacy in the market.
“At one point we had four Indy 500 champion technicians building the CR-1 Carbon” Harrison Ding, Chairman and President of GCT, said. “We have begun recruiting an in-house team which includes Nascar and IndyCar chief engineers and team managers.”
It has been built with carbon fibre, drastically reducing its all important weight while, at the same time, increasing its strength. The same method is used for Ferraris, Formula 1 cars and the Boeing 787 – clearly a winning recipe. Ding said of the manufacturing process: “Our engineers for the development of the CR-1 Carbon worked on everything from wind tunnels to NASA to jets to ships.”
This monster measures at a great 35′ 3″ long and 9’10” high, sleeps 6 and seats 8 people – perfect for those bigger families. The product’s site describes it as ‘Small outside, BIG Inside’ and, while we wouldn’t necessarily call this beast “small” anywhere, the photos released show that the caravan is in fact a lot more spacious inside than one would guess from a glance at its exterior as our slideshow below shows. We’re not quite sure it would fit on the driveway though.
This gleaming giant also features all the whiz bangs and gadgets you could ever need on your travels, including a walk through master bathroom, full height closets, washer and dryer, satellite TV and wi-fi router as well as adjustable tint privacy glass. For the tech savvy among you, the CR-1 also offers a smart control iOS/Android/PC software platform to manage the system controls and is compatible with phones, laptops and iPads.
It gets better though. The concoction of materials used to build this great machine also includes Kevlar – a material commonly used for body armour. We’re not quite sure what situations the typical caravanner would get into that required their caravan to be bulletproof, but it’s still pretty cool right?
You wouldn’t expect it from looking at it, but the CR-1 is also remarkably green. The lightweight carbon fibre structure demands lower fuel usage making it both environmentally and economically friendly. It also makes use of a 700-watt solar power system.
The price has not yet been set for this bad boy, however Ding has said that for a customized CR-1 Carbon, “the sky is the limit” and could “certainly exceed $1 million.” This is without a doubt the sleek, James Bond-esque, caravan on steroids of your dreams, ladies and gents, and will surely prompt some envious stares – and maybe some drooling – of your fellow caravanners and motorhomers wherever you park up – as long as it fits.
