The Queen’s Land Rover set for royal welcome at auction

The Queen's old Land Rover, which is going to auction on 24 November

It may be an unusual choice of Land Rover to tow a caravan with but it has the royal seal of approval – but this 1978 model is set to fetch between £15,000 and £18,000 later this month.

Scheduled to go up for auction at Brooklands on 24 November, this particular model of the iconic offroad vehicle was actually owned by the Ministry of Defence.

It is widely believed that the vehicle was commissioned for royalty too, with many already dubbing it “The Queen’s Land Rover”.

But while some minor question marks remain over the validity of these claims, the car itself remains undeniably luxurious and quintessentially British.

This vehicle is certainly fitted out for royalty, with a set of traffic lights in the back with ‘stop, start, slow’ buttons that allow the passenger to indicate to the driver the speeds they wish to travel at.

As well as this, the back of the car has been customised with beautiful, white leather seats so passengers can ride in style and comfort.

Despite the car’s 34 year age it has only done 1,892 miles, equivalent to roughly 55 miles a year. This ensures that whoever gets the car will get a one of a kind vehicle in good working order with an impeccable service history.

All of which makes this lot a unique opportunity to own a vehicle that could well and truly be described as fit for a queen.
