Original ABI caravans can still be found touring on British roads today and have a reputation for exceptional build quality and damp resistance.
Formed in 1972 as a result of a merger between ACE International touring caravans and maker of leisure homes, Belmont Caravans. The company continued to build a range of caravans until 2001, when Mel Cooper was appointed Chief Executive and ceased the production of tourers to concentrate on the caravan holiday home market.
Under the auspices of Mr Cooper and Andrew Allwood, a successful buyout of the ABI management team in 2004 ensured the company’s continuing success as a holiday home company.
The Swift days
The ABI touring caravan brand names were sold on to the Swift Caravans but no parts or designs were exchanged. All later Swift Group versions were clones of existing Swift models with alternative badging and furnishing options.
